Buggingham Palace

What a fabulous day!  The morning was spent preparing everything for the afternoon then we made several trips up to the drying ground with gardening equipment; bug hotel materials; craft items and refreshments.  Our village councillor arrived ahead of the start time and we had a quick tour of the drying ground so that she could see the extent of the land and hear about our plans for it.  She was very enthusiastic about our community project and keen to use ideas to promote further projects in the village.

When we returned to the bottom section of the ground, our neighbourhood families were arriving, greeting each other and eager to get started on the bug hotel.  We had a quick safety briefing then the children chose whether they wanted to work on the bug hotel, sew the seed or make some butterflies to adorn the ground.  Several of the children were keen to use the drills, supervised by a couple of our dads.  The grown ups got stuck in to clearing the ivy patch first.  Refreshment break arrived and squash and beer were consumed with buns and cookies whilst everyone decided what to do next.  Tony oversaw the planting and there was digging and raking and root and rock removal.  More neighbours arrived to see progress and sit and chat with friends. We had a break to give out certificates to the children and to find out which of the submitted names had won the bug hotel name competition.  It was Wilf's Buggingham Palace with Albie's Bug and Breakfast Hotel a close second.

Emma and Georgie decided to use the remaining pallets to build a second hotel with Albie's name and that is now a work in progress as we need to amass more filler materials.

The finish time came and went as folks enjoyed the sunshine before tired children were taken home, equipment rounded up, a temporary roof put on the second hotel and reluctantly we all turned to home.

Better on black.
