Mon & Brec Canal bridge
“The beauty of the trees, the softness of the air, the fragrance of the grass, they speak to me. The summit of the mountain, the thunder of the sky, the rhythm of the sea, speaks to me. The faintness of the stars, the freshness of the morning, the dewdrop on the flower, speaks to me. The strength of the fire, the taste of the salmon, the trail of the sun, and the life that never goes away, they speak to me. And my heart soars.”
Chief Dan George
Something of a trip down memory lane today with a walk along the Mon&Brec, starting at Llangattock and heading for (but not quite making) Llangynidr. We had a couple of walks along this stretch just before lockdowns really hit. Today the talk is of concerns over the supply of water to maintain the canal. Reminded us of the days before privatisation, nostalgia or a more sensible approach to managing natural resources? After about an hour and a half walking I was ready to turn back, hoping to get a Sunday lunch somewhere – The Dragon at Crickhowell to the rescue!
