Ventured south of the Tyne...
...to see the latest Ray Lonsdale sculptures by the Wear...
Travelled on the Metro rather than taking the car - and the connections all worked out perfectly!
The first sculpture portrays two shipyard workers on their break - one rolling a cigarette, and the other reading the Sunderland Echo, where "It says here" that the shipyards are closing.
The second is "Launch Day" - one of the workers is now a grandfather, explaining to his granddaughter about his work in the shipyards.
It's such a lovely walk along the riverside - the only disappointment was that the Glass Centre is now closed on Sundays - but we managed to find a coffee and a bacon butty overlooking Roker pier instead ;)
The sculptures are huge as well as poignant, by the way - I've added an extra with me in to give them some scale!
