Graduation

Last night Gavin and I watched A Complete Unknown on TV, and we both loved it. I thought Timothée Chalamet did very well in the role, even sounding like Bob Dylan as he sung, no voice over or recordings used.

We left home at 7.30 this morning (Xena was collected within the hour thereafter by Fiona). We went straight to Adam’s home to collect him and Anna, and load up some things he needs to store at our house when Anna finally moves out of the house to the USA. Luke was due to come down from London in the morning by train, but Trump’s tariffs bombshell had caused such a financial disaster that he was working all morning getting reports and new models out, so only joined us in time for lunch. Not yet defined as a stock market crash but sufficiently significant for people to be worried about the loss in value of their pensions and enough to cause an economic downturn.

We went for coffees at Hot Numbers and then went to Churchill College for Adam and Anna's dress rehearsal for the graduation. It is a coincidence that Anna joined the same college as Adam which is why they could graduate together today as the graduations are done by college. I took these photos of them there. The college is famous for all the Hepworth sculptures and it is tradition to pose by the sculptures on graduating.

This is Adam's fourth graduation - an undergraduate degree, two masters and now his doctorate. It is still wonderful to see the graduation ceremony conducted in Senate House in the manner it has been conducted for centuries. Anna graduated with her masters degree today.

After the graduation ceremony Adam and Anna went for drinks with their lab friends, we returned to the hotel via Knoops for a 74% dark hot chocolate with oat milk - on Tommy's recommendation!

We are now going out for dinner to celebrate the graduations.
