Butterflies, Shame No Blackcap
I took my Honda S2000 to RJ's for MOT and service early this morning. The friendly taxi driver who brought me home was Bulgarian. I loved chatting with him about birds and the blackcap in particular. He said he was going to Google about it so I did too. I already knew and have blipped about the blackcap's call symbolising St Francis in Messiaen's opera Saint Francois d'Assise. I couldn't find a translation of Giovanni Pascoli's poem La Capinara. I was moved to tears by a clip of Franco Zefferelli's film Storia di una Capinera from 1993. This film is known as The Sparrow not The Blackcap in English. The bird was in full song still when I got back from the garage but though I glimpsed it I wasn't able to get a pic. My S2000 sailed through the MOT.
I photographed my first green-veined white butterfly of 2025 on a dandelion and shot a comma enjoying the beautiful blackthorn blossom this evening.
