Dark Deeds, Dark-Edged Beefly

Wonderful to hear a blackcap singing in the wooded area of the garden this morning for the first time this year.. I'm not sleeping very well and getting up much earlier than usual. The advantage is that there's not much traffic early and I can hear the birdsong better.

This beefly was hovering near to the ground by the sunny, west-facing bank where solitary bees like to nest. When it locates a nest it will flick its eggs inside and when they hatch the larvae will eat the bee grubs.
