Thursday: Whitstable Harbour
The weather has been glorious today, unlike yesterday there was no sharp wind.
We were very happy to continue exploring on foot today. Excellent breakfast in ‘The Windy Café’, followed by a good long walk through town and along the beaches. I bought Hisham Matar’s ‘My Friends’ in ‘Harbour Books’, a really nicely curated bookstore. I managed to justify it by stating the importance of supporting independent bookstores. In my mind, I will one day have read all the unread books in the house, justifying future purchases, but that reality is still a long way off.
We had a soft drink sitting outside at ‘The Neptune’, looking out at the sea and the oyster farms, before we walked further along the beaches.
Out this evening to ‘The Twelve Taps’ where, randomly, I bumped into a former colleague with whom I worked in Mumbai in the late 1990s. We’ve run into each other a few times over the years. He lives in Whitstable now and had just popped in after work. He’s still working for the same organisation so had some interesting things to share.
We got fish and chips to take back to our Airbnb. Even through we only ordered one portion of chips to share it was a ridiculously large portion.
