Forsythia, forsooth!
Forsythia is everywhere in our street. I went out at lunchtime to post a letter, bumped into a friend and congratulated him on appearing in Woman and Home magazine! He looked abashed and said that his mother had organised it. His mother is a famous novelist, and the article was about how he, his wife and two young children had had to move back into his parents’ home while his house was being altered. This took about 18 months instead of the projected six months. The new house looks very good (from the outside, which is all I’ve seen) with a wooden porch on the front.
Well, I worked, and it was tiring. I managed to close some cases. When my sister sent me some info about Anam cara fasgadh, a charity for families who have been bereaved of a child or young person, the tears sprang up. She is doing a fundraising challenge for them. Of course I’ll sponsor her. One of the ways the charity helps families is to offer them a week's holiday in a caravan at Tralee Bay on the west coast.
Attended a vagus nerve course online after work. I reckoned I needed it! Then I had a whole hot cross bun and went to bed. Fell asleep. Did not cook supper because I find hot cross buns unbelievingly filling. I did not use to…
I’ve been in bed ever since. Not long ago, a pair of US planes flew overhead, seemingly just missing our roof tiles. Incredibly loud: the US is using Fairford air base again. I did briefly wonder if War had been declared while I was asleep. Along with others, I kept peace vigils outside Fairford during Gulf War 2, and dressed up as a weapons inspector on occasions. It didn’t stop anything, but we did get on the news, and had fun. I really don’t like what’s going on anywhere in the world right now, and have been sticking my head in the sand for the last few weeks, but my phone has now worked out which news stories to send me, so I’m re-engaging a little more.
Tomorrow I’m free! The four-day week seems long to me at present (my colleagues work only two) and I’m profoundly grateful for free Fridays.
