Transformation
I popped into the main surgery this morning to collect some props for a delightful afternoon spent at a local primary school. The nurses had looked out some toy dogs and the children loved applying bandages to various parts including ears as well as playing with stethoscopes etc and dressing up in operating gowns and gloves.
When I started working in the practice in 1972 this room was the office with the big old switchboard connected to the partner’s houses and was the waiting room with 3 chairs. We did routine ops on a Wednesday which was the only day we didn’t do cattle TB testing. This room has just been converted to the dental suite with all the fancy monitoring equipment, dental X ray etc which is what is happening in the blip with my neighbour C ( mum of the 2 girls ) and one of the vet nurses explaining to a trainee VN how the new gismos work - I wouldn’t have a clue!
How things have changed in 53 years from 4 vets, 1 receptionist who did everything else and an evening receptionist to a staff of more than 40 and no farm work any more . I liked my James Herriot type lifestyle..!
