What to do on a sea day

Bearing in mind that we were originally meant to be going to Boston and not New York, today’s guest lecturer, Dr. Jim Baer’s lecture would have particularly pertinent, being that Salem is just outside the city.

That said, the lecture about the witch trials was excellent, being very well attended too. Dr. Jim managed to fit a lot into 45 minutes, which included a good historical background about how we got to this situation in Salem in 1692. Dr. Jim also noted that many of the reasons we got to this situation then are perhaps resonant to today and that we should maybe learn from history.

Reference was also made to one of my favourite plays, Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible’.

It’s a shame our tour plans to Salem were shelved, however, we’ll try and get there next time we are in Boston.

Anyway, we have enjoyed today, as ever, and I hope you have done so too.
