Getting Inked

I got my first (and until today, only) tattoo in 1996 when I was living in NYC.  I did it to mark turning 40 and had some loose idea that I’d mark each decade birthday with some body art - but 50 passed, and then 60.  And then 4 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and since then I’ve been thinking about another tattoo.  So here I am, getting inked.  This is on my inner left forearm on the same side as I had cancer.

Once I’ve healed up a bit, I will post a shot of the finished art.  I am very happy with it - the tattoo artist really created exactly what I wanted - feminine and delicate with lots of color.  Pink ribbon, monarch butterfly and some cherry blossoms.  I will put a shot in Extra of the stencil in my arm before he started tattooing so you can see the design.

And we discussed Part Two which is to add the word “survivor” once I’ve passed the 5 year mark.

I did a lot of research before I picked this artist and I think he was the right choice.  He’s been doing this for 20 years and his shop is very relaxed and friendly.  hubs hung with me for a while just so he could see how it’s done and we all three laughed and talked.  It really wasn’t painful - more like someone scratching the arm.

I am going to go back to him when this is healed and get my original tat freshened up - it’s faded a bit over the years.

And now I am off to upload all my dog pics into galleries!  May the Force be with me!
