A Treasured Book
Martin Parr is something of an 'adopted son' of Hebden Bridge. He lived and worked here from 1975 to 1981 and the photographs he took of the people and places of the Calder Valley launched his career as a documentary photographer.
Whenever he was in the area he would visit the Penine Horizons Digital Archive which is where I met him. He was a most interesting and friendly individual, as was his wife Susie.
This is a book I got from him on his visit in 2014 when he gave a talk to a packed audience telling the story behind the photographs in the book.
(It's a bit worrying when you can recognise many of the people he photographed).
