Sgwarnog: In the Field

Scarce

Having elected not to brave the rail network on a Sunday, I was up early for a Monday morning journey back from Wales in time for a lunchtime meeting at work in Leeds.

The typical grimy filter of my train window may not be doing this view any favours, and I find the Avanti West Coast livery a bit dull, however the train in question has some interest.

This Class 805 Evero was just pulling in to Chester as I was leaving. These are bi-mode trains, which means they can can use electric power when on electrified lines and switch to diesel when on the non-electrified routes, like the North Wales line to Holyhead. There are only thirteen of them, not yet all in service, and joined the fleet just last summer, so a relatively scarce and new feature of interest on the UK rail network.

Thankfully today’s journey was a smooth one.
