‘Ancient and Modern’
Unlike most standing stones, which are in isolated areas, the Ravenswood Standing Stone is in the middle of a council estate, in an inconspicuous cul-de-sac at the end of Ravenswood Avenue on the south side of Edinburgh.
Made of grey sandstone (also some quartz crystals), this monolith is just over 6 feet high and 3 ft 4 in diameter at the base and is believed to be over 4000 years old—as old as the Pyramids! Its original purpose is unknown.
