Solace Day 2.
As I mentioned in yesterday's blip taking shots as helmsman is a difficult ask. So this shot was taken when we tied up for lunch.
The ewe and lamb caught my eye, I don't do may lamb shots so thought it would do. Mum is a "Mule" or to me a "greyface". She will be a cross between two breeds. Generally a "fell" breed which are "as tough as old boots and capable of doing well on poor grazing and bad weather. The male would be A lowland breed such as a Leicester, the breed has high milkability and prolificacy. The result of the cross is, hopefully, a mum that is hardy and thrifty while having good milkability and producing twins.
Many thousands of these greyface are sold out of the Cumbria area to travel all over the country being the mainstay of the sheep industry.
