Coombe Hill
We drove along the ridge of the Chilterns to a different viewpoint today. Coombe Hill belongs to the National Trust and has, at its summit, a 1904 Memorial for the men of Buckinghamshire who died in the Second Boer War in South Africa. The view across the Vale of Aylesbury towards The Cotswolds seems to go on forever.
We were there during the partial eclipse of the sun but the sky was so clear that even with a 10 stop ND filter my camera couldn't stop down enough for a shot.
If you turn away from the view and look into the sheltered valley behind the escarpment, you can see Chequers, the country house of the Prime Minister (extra). The current house was built around 1565 but is probably a reconstruction of an earlier house.
