The Alhambra
I was here thirty years ago and remember it vividly. Now that I’m back I realize a lot has changed, mostly in security and I notice many more details that I missed last time. The Alhambra is a vast area with huge buildings and beautiful gardens. It’s built to impress, to serve Allah and to be a place of beauty for the people ruling the Kalifat from here and everyone serving the power. Much is centered around stillness, the water, present litterarily everywhere is still or is only gurgling producing a peaceful background to birds singing. It also makes the high number of visitors to keep their voices down in respect of the silence. Only a sertain amount of people are let in every hour which keep everything movin in a slow, steady flow.
The main is from the Myrtle garden, one of two famous patios, the other one is the patio of the lions but I didn’t include that here. The two extras is one of the hundred small fountains producing a quiet splashing and a nice play with the light. The second is on of my favourite objects; something showing the passing of time. An amazing visit we thought, we recommend you to visit if you are in Granada but order tickets well in advance.
