A celebration of life

Today was the Celebration of the life of my colleague and friend, Andrea, who was taken from us far too early.

The humanist ceremony took place at Holmsford Bridge Crematorium near Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, and there was a considerable attendance, including a few of us from Healthcare Improvement Scotland, where Andrea worked from 2018. People were asked to dress not in black, but in bright colours to reflect Andrea’s view to life.

We were so lucky to have had the privilege of meeting and getting to know this amazing lady. However, our hearts went out to our colleague Mark,  who married Andrea in October 2023. I remember the joy and fun attending their wedding, and it was poignant that the celebrant then was undertaking today’s service.

Andrea would have been so proud of her three children from her previous marriage who were so brave.

If you wondering why there is a dragonfly brooch, this is because Andrea loved them, along with butterflies, unicorns and giraffes.

The weather shone brightly, which we all took as a sign that Andrea was looking down.

An emotional day for all.
