Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Today I just did half of the same fitness session of yesterday - 30 minutes was enough. Then we went on a brisk walk round the Links.

After that, I spent a very frustrating morning trying to cancel my subscription to a certain movie provider. I thought I HAD cancelled it months ago!! There was an odd payment that came out today. And the same date last month. And the month before... I checked with the bank and they told me who it was. I tried to check on their website, but it was so long ago, I no longer use, or indeed have, that email address, so I couldn't log in to cancel!! Aaaaarghh! The website was infuriating! You'd be led round in circles, always back to a cheery 'What can we help you with today?'

I eventually found a 'bot' text screen down the corner of the page, who answered questions, so must have been a person. They calmly informed me that there were, in fact, FOUR pages of cancellation procedure, and so I obviously hadn't completed them properly. They offered me a three month refund. Not enough, but 'that was policy'. And anyway, I'm very relieved that I did spot it - it could have gone on for many more months.

Archie had gone out with Elizabeth, and we then rushed down to the cinema to see a film that a couple of people have recommended - 'I'm Still Here'. It was an excellent film - a true story of Brazil's military dictatorship in the 60s and 70s. The lead actress, Fernanda Torres, as the mother of the family whose husband disappears and is killed, was just amazing.

My enjoyment of the film was compromised by the seating arrangements. It was in the small (three row) cinema, and it was busy. So we had to sit right at the edge, and crane our necks to see. AND there was an air conditioning unit right above us. So we moved down to the (empty) front row (though JR lasted about two minutes before moving back). I had to lie back, lay my head on the back of the seat to see the whole screen. Then move my head down the screen to read the subtitles!! MOST uncomfortable. And definitely NOT worth the almost £10 entry fee.  Might as well pay a couple of quid more and sit in the relative luxury of Everyman. But this movie has only been on at odd times, and it fitted in with Archie's walk with Elizabeth today, where he went swimming and digging, as we can see here…
