Great white egret
Did a circular walk from Chapel St Leonards that was in a book of walks in the cottage. We started on the sea front and then headed inland along flat farmland and ditches. We had a good view of a kestrel. It did get warm enough to take off hats and gloves. We stopped for lunch at the north sea observatory. It had been hard going along the beach to get there so it was a welcome break . Their vegan sausage roll was very good though I'm never sure why pretend meat has to be so like the real thing. I did wonder at one point if I'd got the right order.
After completing the walk we went on to Wolla bank nature reserve. There were quite a few birds on the lakes and more were coming in to roost. This huge bird arrived and dwarved the little egrets nearby. We looked it up when we got home and found it was a great white egret. I think it is the first one I've ever seen.
Did a bit of tidying and packing ready for the journey home tomorrow.
