At Much Marcle: crumble, pickle and truffle x

On day two of the Homme House Horse Trials, the horse box field is on the face it awash with Winnebago size wagons. Polished, shining, horse homes on wheels. State of the art wagons with pull draws for things. Hay and things. Just lots of lovely things.

There is one stereotype that has just stuck. Its the people with horses one. People with sporting horses especially. It's an odd one, because as you meander through this field of shiny wagons, you notice that its not all shine. It's like wandering through the green room at a pop concert, like wandering through the backstage of a stage show. Actually, people are pleased to see you. Pleased to share the story of there performance. You see the sweat, the muddy boots, the tired faces. There's no shine here, well not on the outside anyway.

The shine is on the inside of these people. They are all hard working. This lifestyle is not gifted. There are some who have corporate sponsors, and some doing this on debt and a shoe string. Both are up against it. It's the passion and the small stories that are the shine.

This is Sue Wilson and her family of horses, humans and dogs. Her three terriers, Crumble, Pickle and Truffle are themselves a micro family. Crumble (15 years) behind is grandmother to Pickle (15 weeks). Pickle or (Piddle's) mother, Truffle is just behind too.

Crumble is a dog with lassie tendencies, having saved the family cat after notifying Sue that the feline had come to blows with a brush cutter blade. Crumbles animate dance lead Sue to the bush where the cat lay injured. The cat survived living to a ripe old age of 19 years...

There are wonderful stories to be found on that side of the barrier, and lovely people too ...take a wander over..... X
