Split Fiction

Conversations over a pint (me) and a G&T (him) with my brother in law have finally got the better of me and proven to be a little expensive.

The PS5 that I had ordered arrived yesterday. It was a doddle to set up and I spent a very pleasant evening reacquainting myself with Gran Turismo (the 7th iteration) and playing a few rounds of golf on the PGA Tour. The graphics (as we used to say back in the day) are absolutely superb and the “feel” of everything is mind blowing.

This evening m’boy was with me a night earlier than planned and nearly exploded with excitement when he arrived home and saw the latest addition to the front room. As I continued working, I had to smile at the roar of engines and whoops of excitement from him.

However, it was after our burger tea and catch up that my mind was truly blown when we started playing Split Fiction.

Oh. My. Goodness. It’s a two player game with a story that centres around two characters who become entwined in each other’s fictional stories. Clear? The crucial bit though is that you’re on the same team and have to work together to conquer each level as it cuts back and forth between sci-fi and fantasy.

Even the lights on the controllers changed to reflect the colours of our characters!

I am not ashamed to admit that I felt like a child again…and something of a rube as the gameplay and effects absolutely blew my mind. Both the boy and I were totally caught up in it, until it was time to go to football and belatedly realise that the early burger tea was not quite early enough….

Is it wrong to hope for terrible weather - and therefore a genuine excuse to remain indoors - this weekend?!

Maybe my brother in law isn’t so bad after all…
