Canals and boats
Up and out for breakfast this morning in a lovely little cafe down the road from our accommodation. Then off to the tourist info centre to get a map and a booklet about the city. First stop - a boat tour along the canals. Interesting and I took loads of photos but none are very good - the grey skies and lack of sun doesn’t help.
Next stop - coffee and waffles to keep us going. We then set off on a walking tour of our own making, using the guide book to help inform us. Ghent is chock full of beautiful architecture - some of it being renovated, some infilled with more modern buildings but always in keeping with what’s around it.
By this point our feet were getting a bit tired so we took stock with another coffee. Decided to head towards home, having roughly planned what we’ll do tomorrow. A short rest back at the apartment then off to find a Turkish restaurant that had been recommended to us by a friend of Paul’s. Luckily they had space so we had a lovely meal there, then back home to chat before bedtime. Hope to get a better nights sleep with earplugs!
