Solitary dolphin

It was a bit flat and dull today, We took the fluffy one to the beach and when we arrived it was a very flat and dull. My wife noticed an unusual clump of people on the beach when we looked out to sea, we saw something breaking the surface and realised that everyone was watching the dolphin a few hundred metres offshore.

I took my camera out and took a picture - it's not the best you're ever going to see - the light was flat and the compact doesn't have along lens, plus the dolphin wasn't breaking the surface so much and after a few more surface breaks it vanished from view.

Apparently the most likely dolphin to see here is the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), but I can't be sure - we only saw it briefly.

The beach was pretty empty and the sea was very flat and calm and the dog had a wonderful time running, sniffing and doing dog things. He didn't come home all wet and covered in sand so even avoided a shower - so he thought it was a good all round day!
