Old Baby Mackerel

Without 'Arts out West ' it is likely that the good people of remote West Cumbria would remain uncultured and possibly still dress in sheep skins. However, due to this funding we get to hear really excellent live bands, musicians and theatre performances at a very affordable price. On Saturday, Loweswater Village Hall hosted the Blue Grass Band  'Old Baby Mackerel' from deep South Bristol. They were bursting with verve and enthusiasm and never have forty digits moved so fast over the strings.of  guitar, mandolin, banjo and a double bass. The result was a surge of toe-tapping numbers with close harmony vocals that enveloped the whole audience. Sausage baps and a bar completed an evening of well-being.
It was a complete contrast to the earlier part of the day, which was taken up with First Aid training - although, of course, some of the mock scenarios (choking springs to mind) had ample scope for individual drama leads.
