Marshes

A drive to Silloth and beyond and a different Cumbrian landscape.  These are some of the Solway marshes.  At a few places there are examples of 'stockades' used by cattle and sheep.  The marshes are productive and saltmarsh lamb is very tasty.  I thought I was lucky today as I saw an egret feeding in one of the ponds.  However, it flew away  before I got my camera ready and 'hid' behind the middle distance gorse.  In the distance are communication masts close to Kirkbride.  For my worldwide friends, this corner of Cumbria has had a military history.  There are two aerodromes  at Kirkbride and Silloth used during the 2nd WW. The former is used for 'pleasure trips and Silloth hangers are now used for industry Unfortunately aircraft did crash into the Solway
