Life through the lens...

Bradford murals

What a glorious day. Best so far this year. Blue sky, sunshine, up to 18C.
We had decided to make the most of it, and so after our trip to Birstall market for fish, bread, and pork pies we drove over to Saltaire, Bradford.
We parked in the ‘ free’!  car park at Hirst Lock, by the Leeds Liverpool canal, and walked along the two path to Salts Mill.
Nice to see many people walking and cycling along the path, all enjoying the good weather.

Haven’t been to Salts Mill for a few years and we’re very pleased to see a few changes. All for the better. Had a look round all floors.
Interesting new Hockney exhibition of flower paintings, although not one of my favourites.

Enjoyed the photographic exhibition: ‘ Life goes on!’
All black and white photos showing the decline of heavy industry in and around Bradford.
The last loom being taken out of Salts Mill in 27 February 1986.

However I have chosen ceramic murals for my main photo.
The top one completed in 1972 by Philippa Threefall  for Bradford and Bingley Building Society. Relocated to Salts Mill in December 2021 when the head office closed down.
It shows many of Bradford’s notable buildings back in Victorian times.
Including the Cathedral, Town Hall, and Salts Mill.

The bottom one was created by German Artist,  Greta Marks, back in the 1960s.
Commissioned by Bradford Corporation for it’s Central House offices.
Found behind a false wall .
In 2022 a box full of pieces was handed to ceramics restorer, Fiona J. Hutchinson.
It took her two years to clean and repair the pieces , some broken.
Now looking splendid hung in the entrance of Salts Mill.
It depicts the old canal basin in Bradford.

Enjoyed looking round the books, ( one bought for Leo) Also the Home Shop. ( Birthday present bought and a refill  for my pen)

Lovely walk back along the river.
( took photo of the Mill and reflections.see extra)
