Muddy Confluence
I started the day getting the details of the roof inspections - a chimney pot had blown off damaging slates and there are some other repairs needed. A bit of an 'ouch' moment but it needs done. Then there was a message that S will have left before I get home. The difference+8 hours makes to dealing with things.
All of this is probably partly why I slept past Bali sunrise but was still up early to go a yomp up Bukit Kiara with #1 son. There was no sunrise here either, it was very cloudy. It was busy, for 7.30, but we got to the end of the path and had a view towards the North South Expressway. We also had to navigate our way past some angry macaques, not as cute as the ones I saw last time. I did reflect, there am I a 70 something hiking in the jungle at 8 in the morning!
Got back just before 9 and I had a hot bath. My legs needed it. Then it was off into the city, by public transport. I was lucky as an 818 MRT feeder was just about to leave as I arrived at the terminus in Desa Sri Hartamas and even luckier when a lovely Malay woman paid my RM3 when my card wouldn't work. Can't remember I left it with money on it, or it just expired. Topped up ok at Semantan MRT station and headed to Pasar Seni, decidedly avoiding the Women Only carriage. At Pasar Seni (Central Market) I took the LRT to Masjid Jamek and took the semi-conducted tour. Of course I had to wear the long purple gown and hood. It was hot!
Masjid Jamek, built 1908, stands at the confluence of the Gombak and Klang Rivers and is the basis of the name Kuala Lumpur, It's a small masjid, can only accommodate 4000 and based on Indian architecture, as is the original Kuala Lumpur Station. Then it was back on the LRT to KLCC. There I bought some things from Lush and M&S (the inevitable knickers) and had lunch with loads of liquids on Din Tai Fung. It was interesting to see the food court and indeed Din so empty. Ramadan must really affect the F&B businesses, other than those serving pork of course.
There was a hiccup on the way back as I got of at Masjid Jamek again instead of Pasi Seni which meant I miss the bus connection at Semantan by a whisker. I knew form last year that the 818's 30 minute frequency was an aspiration so got the 3 p.m. 852 and got off as it turned into Jalan Sri Hartamas 1. It's a slightly longer walk back, about 5 minutes, but it was better than staying on the bus while it did its circuit of Sri Hartamas, Publika and Solaris before arriving in Mont Kiara at 1MK. It was raining, but sprinkly rather than a full downpour. The day's transport cost me less than the RM20/£3.54 top up. There is almost half of that left in credit.
As soon as I got in I had a shower and then lay on the bed with the AC and fan on, comatose for about an hour. Later it was time to wander across to HK for dinner and then back to have another evening swim, not curtailed by lightening this time. I watched some TV (The Chief eps 2 & 3) and then fell into bed.
