We are lucky enough to have two bathrooms in our house so they have been designated 'his' and 'hers'. Hers is a very nice room, with soaps and oils and small pots of things. Mine is an altogether more manly affair with razors, clippers and brushes, although I am accompanied in there by two fat ladies. There is one section of wall by the door that bothered me; lying in the bath it just looked too empty, so I knew it needed something hanging on the wall. The question was, what?
When doing a bit of browsing for something suitable I came across this poster. It's a reproduction, but it is perfect for what I wanted. The scene depicted is from the area in which I was born and raised but more than that, I well remember the poster adorning railway stations in the area back in the 1960's and as far as I know, they could have been all over the country. It's a painting by the prolific English painter, Terence Cuneo, painted in 1962 and titled 'South Grid Railway Sidings' and the original is owned by the National Railway Museum in York.
As you can imagine, it cost considerably more to have it framed than I paid for the poster itself, but I picked it up today and am very pleased with it. I was disappointed to find I didn't have the required hooks to hang it on the wall so I'll get some tomorrow. There's going to be a hanging.
