Third Time Lucky
Today we took a Tasman Bay boat trip out of Kaiteriteri following the coast along the Abel Tasman National Park. The forecast was wet with thundery storms!
We had a rain shower over night but the morning was sunny but cloudy. Our 12:45pm trip started with just 45 passengers. Within 10 minutes we had visited Split Apple Rock (postcard) and then a pod of dolphins appeared! We had given up seeing them after 2 previous boat trips failed to show any. There must have been 20-30 of them but swimming in different directions and far apart. They didn't seem to be feeding, just cruising according to a boat hand. Needless to say we are totally happy.
Postcard: before we took the trip I bought a coffee, I'm impressed how they designed the cup to match the beach and sea. The lower image shows us arriving at Tonga Quarry Campsite to drop-off/pick-up.
Twenty minutes later the heavens opened but we had already moved downstairs knowing the boat was going to be full for the last section. A good move as by the time it did fill the rain was stopping anyone staying on top. By the time we returned to Kaiteriteri the sun was out again.
Tomorrow we travel south.
