Treacherous
We are staying on the front at Morecambe for the next week. The view from front room is lovely looking over the bay towards the Lake District. This morning I went for a walk along the prom. Lots of joggers out. Dog walkers. And families just out for a walk despite the cold air.
At one point, just beside the RNLI building, I came across the memorial to the cockle pickers. 23 workers died in 2004, trapped by the very fast incoming tide. They were inexperienced labourers being exploited by a Chinese gang master. It was a reminder that although the view is beautiful the waters - and some people - are treacherous.
We then headed off to catch up with the family. A day of shopping, walks and fitting new blinds on a few windows. While I was helping with the DIY others were baking fairy cakes. See extra. I look forward to one tomorrow - if there are any left!
