A Scottish Day
..... It must have been, we went through so many weather changes.
This morning after breakfast I was at the poolside, enjoying a dip in the hot sunshine and blue skies. The egrets in the tree and the women, were watching the morning show as the fishermen pulled in their net after a night at sea - at the same time as I was complaining about thunderstorms, they were at sea in small wooden boats.
The second shot is another naval vessel going across the skyline, it was followed soon after by a tanker, another reminder that the sea is not just there for my pleasure.
The third shot shows the sudden change to torrential rain. Bringing it home that I'm in the tropics. This is often the time of year for sudden, unpredictable and very heavy downpours. Looking back through my pictures over the years, I see that I have clearly removed them from my memory! I didn't swim in the rain this time, but I have in the past.
I spent much of the afternoon sorting luggage and making sure things were well charged for the journey. I leave the hotel just after 1am tomorrow night. Hopefully I'll get a couple of hours sleep in the early evening. I'm back midday Tuesday.
The shots in the second collage were at around 5pm when I started to get restless at staying indoors. I borrowed an umbrella again and set off along the front. All of the regular sellers were there- the seller of elephants made from coconuts, brass and wood who has a delightful smile and chats to me without trying to sell. The one armed man with a very disconcerting but quite lifelike prosthetic hand sticking out of his sleeve - he sells cashew nuts. The one-eyed man who sells pipal leaf cards. Then there are several sellers of bed spreads and silk and cotton sarongs who waft them out in front of me as I walk. The seller of peacock feather fans - they were all there along the walkway. The evening sellers of light up head gear and wands weren't there as it wasn't dark enough.
The greater egret is sitting in the same spot as a water heron was which I blipped during my first stop in Kovalam last month.
The seaviews were all taken from similar places. It's Sunday, so the local people outnumbered tourists on the beach. There aren't many British people at the moment, the vast majority are Russian.
You can see that the local people (particularly the women) don't change to go in the sea but go in in their every day clothes. I presume they must change somewhere but I've never worked out where... or perhaps they just let their clothes dry naturally in the hot air and the sun.
The sea was really rough after the storms, with more to come - lots of signs saying that the sea was dangerous and not to swim, were being ignored.
The sea view is actually full of the heads of surfers enjoying the waves.
My last day tomorrow, it's come around very quickly. The bad weather is due to clear by lunchtime so the sky should be clear as we leave overnight. I've taken off through thunderstorms before.
