Common Enchantments

Mountain visit

We decided to drive up to Tate’s home in the North Carolina mountains today. It is our first trip since the Hurricane flooding and wind damage. There were several repaired roads on the way and one photo here is where the highway department had to rebuild half the road where it had fallen into the river. It is still a one way area so we had to wait our turn to pass. This was the case in several areas.

Tate’s home did not have any damage but the forest directly behind his house has so many downed trees. The trail that I have walked for the past 7 years is mostly buried under trees. It was hard walking. As you can see in the photos some just toppled over from the root. His small tool shed behind the house was almost crushed by the trees that are now on the ground. They were jammed together just above the shed. Two friends who are tree cutters by trade came over with their trucks and a block and tackle assembly to get the trees down without them falling on his shed with all his tools.

It could have been worse and we are so thankful. We saw homes crushed by trees and several in stages of being repaired from flood damage on the drive to his road . This area had minor damage compared to other NC and TN areas.

I made it through the scenery without crying but it is so sad.
