Travelling, again

I’m endlessly fascinated by everything I see from the car, and the new camera is very good tempered about this. Today’s journey took us from the east coast up through the middle, very remote and empty, crossing Adam Bridge into Jaffna. Empty derelict houses were reminders of the terrible toll of the civil war. I read Brotherless Night this week, which probably wasn’t ideal holiday reading, but has added to my store of knowledge about this tragic time.
I also noticed the gradual change of areas to more Hindu than Buddhist, with the odd Muslim settlement thrown in.
This shop is in Jaffna: the dried fish are typical of everywhere near the sea. As well as thinking about war, I’m very much looking forward to trying world-famous Jaffna crab!
