Book club
I have never been to a book club before. I normally have too much to read for work to add another random novel to my list. I love reading non work books of course but I also have my own huge list to work through. Never the less I want to support our local very successful independent bookshop. They are doing Mansfield Park in a few weeks and it is a book that I am slightly obsessed with but for today it was Soldier Sailor a structured steam of consciousness story about a young mother in Ireland’s intense relationship with her son. I found it a bit irritating but she had real control of her tone and fractured story. The group was exactly as you’d expect. A group of women of a certain age, a glass of white wine and some jolly conversation. I hope I can make the Mansfield Park one in a couple of weeks.
I tried and failed to get my shingles vaccination today, went to the wrong surgery in Liphook. Did make the dental check up first thing and managed to do a fairly long walk with the dog over lunchtime once the heavy rain of the morning had stopped. V decided not to go and teach as he is still getting over his cold so we managed to have a late dinner of Dahl and aubergines and watched the penultimate A Thousand Blows on Disney Plus.
