It Was Supposed To Be a Rose

I'm making a Sachatorte chocolate cake for M's big birthday coming up.  The recipe says to use crystalised rose petals to decorate it with. It's impossible to make a cake without M noticing so he knows that I'm baking it.  As he was going into town this morning, I asked him to buy me a single rose from the florist.  Unfortunately they didn't have any roses so he came back with this beautiful Ranuculus instead.  The only problem is that when we checked we found out that they are poisonous.

Happily, I have some pretty pansies in flower in the garden, which are edible, so I'll try crystalising some of those for the cake.

So, this pretty flower is now in a bud vase and I used it for a photograph instead.
