A contrived blip
I'm not sure if this is abstract but it is organic, so it vaguely fits the theme for Abstract Thursday.
I'm sure we all have at least one of those 'must have' gadgets that got used once and never again. The supposedly non-stick egg poachers? That thing for slicing a mango in two and leaving the stone behind? Back of the cupboard. But one gadget that I love and use over and over again is my 'sous-vide' machine. For those who don't watch cookery shows it's basically a water bath which can be controlled to a very precise and accurate temperature; within a tenth of a degree.
I've prepared these carrots for this evening and also some new potatoes. They get vac-packed with just a nob of butter and some salt, plus a sprig of mint for the potatoes and a star anise for the carrots. Once they are in, I can leave them for an hour and I know they will be cooked perfectly and because the water is only heated to 87.8 degrees, they won't be overcooked. Also, because they are vac-packed, all the flavour and nutrients stays inside.
A longish day today combined with an essential trip to Norwich this afternoon so I didn't get to take any photos. There's always a blip somewhere though!
