Les jeux olympics (de l'eau!)
First day of working with Thom, and what a difference! We ran a “Water Olympics” in Kids Club, in which the children were in teams and each one had to win water and water balloons for their team to use in the massive water fight at the end of the club. This meant we had events as diverse as obstacle courses to skipping, football to boules. Everyone really enjoyed themselves, and of course, we had the majority of the water thrown over us!
The rest of the day was spent cleaning, in preparation for the weekend…which will be the last one that we can prepare for as after this we are pretty much full until the end of the time here. Before babysitting a customer’s children (allowing them to go out for a romantic meal without their children crying!), we went for a quick swim in the sea. By quick, I do mean quick…pretty much a walk out to the sea at high tide and getting up to a level where we could swim and then walking back. The tide here is pretty strong, so when the tide is out it is a good ten minute walk before you can get to deeper water. Anyhows, while we were babysitting and after I had settled the toddler (who had begun to scream the moment her mother had left!) and Thom had got the elder child to bed we watched Monty Python’s The Holy Grail. What a brilliant film, I had forgotten just how good it is, and the humour never does get old. We spent our time trying not to laugh too loud as to wake the children!
As an aside; we now have a grill to complement our four ring hob and microwave, and a brand new bike to replace the awful one with the broken spoked wheel. This is all after some weeks of asking, so I wasn’t holding up much hope to be granted our wish, but the manager who had brought Thom to the site was more than happy to help which really was great.
