Gearing up for the big day

The gardeners among you may be aware that national "Sneak Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day" is right around the corner on August 8th. Evidently, my neighbor, Elaine, was looking to beat us all to the punch by sneaking this beauty onto my porch early this morning.

I know nothing about the origins of this holiday, but undoubtedly it came about as a reaction to the overzealous planting of zucchini, causing otherwise law abiding citizens to drop off large baskets of baseball bat-sized squash onto their neighbor's doorsteps.

This evening's dinner consisted of fragrant, steamed jasmine rice served with this handsome specimen of zucchini, plus bell pepper, onions, and some thinly sliced beef, stir-fried with garlic, a dash of soy sauce, and lots of ginger.
