Photo bomb
Big Hindu festival today & Pasindu took us up to the temple. It’s a bit overwhelming if you’re not a Hindu (I’m not); so many people, so much colour, everyone in best clothes. Young women forming a circle and processing around a god-statue; people carrying bowls of burning fruit. Outside the temple everyone is madly photographing everyone else. I wanted to catch the orange arch as we left and maybe a couple of people, but this guy jumped into my photo laughing and shouting ‘hello’ and I said ‘oh thanks!’ knowing he’d just made me a photo, with his lungi and his bright shirt and his exuberance.
In other news: swam the long hotel pool, let the tame Trincomalee deer eat food from my hand; understood that the dog asleep under my sun lounger was not going to move; accepted birthday cake from an Australian with a birthday (‘we can’t eat it all’) and now listening to rain and wind while half-watching cricket on TV
