It has been said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Until today I'd never considered that the way to a man's stomach is through his nose. All this was changed thanks to the "joys" of a Transnasal Endoscopy. In comparison to a traditional gastroscopy, where the camera gets shoved down your throat and your gag reflex has a serious workout while they shoot the movie in your stomach, this technique is far less stressful, although it is still far from pleasant. 

Anyhow, that's how I spent my afternoon. The indications are that there's nothing too scary going on in my oversized belly - which is a huge relief - and the full results will be back in a few weeks. The rather incongruous photo was grabbed in the recovery room, which to be honest was the least impressive part of the endoscopy suite - but then again I was only in there for a matter of minutes before being let back into the world with a raging thirst and hunger to sate :-)
