The bells, the bells
Average weather today - a bit of everything, though fortunately not too much wind. Usual indoor stuff this morning - emails and Blipstuff mostly, then getting ready for a u3a Creative Writing Group meeting at 12.30. We meet in a member's house and take our lunch, and like the last meeting there were only three of us. We had some discussion as to how to keep the group going, then read out our pre-written pieces - I took a few poems from my small collection!
Then came the mystery object, supplied by me this time. It was a small bell, just 14cm wide, which once belonged to my grandmother. I've never known what it was - it has a beautiful tinkling sound. Having Googled it, it appears to be a sanctuary or altar bell, rung in churches of various denominations to draw attention to different parts of the service. It has the names S. Matheas, S. Marcus, S. Lukas and S. Johannes engraved around it, with various birds and animals too. I've no idea how old it is, but there are plenty for sale online.
We chatted about creativity, poetry and other topics and found we had been sitting there for more than four hours!
Quote of the Day: 'A bell's not a bell 'til you ring it.' - Oscar Hammerstein II.
