MMC2025 :: Day 25 :: Further West
Mono Month Challenge 2025
This morning we headed west from Havelock towards Nelson. My main Blip was taken at Pelorus Bridge. We planned to stop for coffee but the old cafe has closed down and the pop-up coffee van was shut.
Postcard: Canvastown (before Pelorus Bridge). We have passed Canvastown several times over the years, it is basically a pub, shop and a converted church. This time we did stop because I had read Michael Palin's book Great-Uncle Harry. Apparently before going off to WW1 Harry worked as a farmhand at Canvastown.
Postcard: Pelorus Bridge, a one at a time bridge which passes over a gorge. Last time we did walk down to the river but got eaten by sandflies. Gave that a miss this time.
Postcard: Nelson has a wonderful classic car museum we will visit during our stay but today we saw so many just out and about. Naturally the 2 Morris Minors, both split screen, are my favourite. the Austin 1800 Ute needs a special mention. These were only made in Australia so this must have been imported. It will be rare considering only between 2-3000 were made.
Yet another very hot day, I'm wishing I hadn't forgot my hat...
PS as we drove over to Nelson we passed 3 large Bedford type trucks with what looked like wooden houses on the back. These appear to be part of the travelling Gypsy Fair which will be held in Nelson (Richmond Showgrounds) on the 1st & 2nd March.
