Mrs K
Well I finally got around to catching the "Becoming Led Zeppelin" film.
As a fan of the band for many years, it was of course great to see and hear them in their early days on a big screen, but it was a bit strange when the film suddenly stopped in 1970, just as they had started touring the Led Zeppelin II album. I understand that this was a film about origins and beginnings but the sudden stop without any further explanation of what would go on to happen to them was a bit weird. Will there be a part II - "Being Led Zeppelin" I wondered as I left the screening. :-)
I love the band's music, which played a big part in my formative musical years, but I definitely felt that, being a documentary (of sorts) the film would have benefited from talking heads (other than the surviving band members), giving some background and critique.
Obviously as this film was authorised by the band, it is also only fair to point out that it completely failed to cover any of the band's excesses on tour, although there are plenty of other sources that deal with that aspect, if that's your thing.
Still, I'm glad to have seen it, and it did bring back some of the thrill that listening to that First Led Zeppelin album produced when I first put it on my turntable as a teenager.
What's that you say? Oh yes, the blip - yes, it's a female Kestrel caught in late afternoon light, the rain and strong winds having largely stopped here just at the moment. I like the way she's twisting her tail towards the camera, to try to keep still above whatever it is that she thinks she might have spotted.
