Paul's Instructions For Children
The Central Texas roller coaster ride that we call winter was on a warm swing as we drove toward FBC to join with the church body to worship and praise God under a cloudless sky, in 45 degree temperatures and with no bone-chilling winds. We gratefully and joyfully began our service with a congregational song, followed by the welcome from Pastor Wes and his adorable assistant who we all enjoyed seeing. After the welcome the choir, orchestra and all our dedicated accompanists presented the uplifting hymn arrangement(by one of our own choir members) , "Praise The Lord, Ye Heavens Adore Him". The congregation continued the worship and praise with a few more songs, before Pastor Wes took us to Ephesians 6:1-4 to address the role of children in a Godly home. He began by defining the group that Paul was speaking to in his time and comparing it to the group we think of today and noting that there are no hard and fast rules that give a definite end to childhood. Paul wrote that children should obey their parents while they are living in the home and continue to honor them even after leaving the home. Of course, if the parents would tell the children to do something illegal or immoral, they should refuse to do that, but that was the one caveat. In all else, treat parents with respect. He also instructed the fathers (parents) not to provoke their children, but to raise them in the love and discipline of the Lord. Pastor Wes had much more to say about the subject, which you can find in the Live-stream, including why there is a shot of an intersection in one of the shots in the collage. At the end of the service, we honored Debbie, who is retiring from her position in the church office. She and her husband, Tony, will still be attending church at FBC, but we will miss seeing her smile when we go into the church office........
