I Just Can’t Wait To Be King
A bit of culture for tonight’s entertainment - a big screen showing of the Donmar Warehouse production of “Macbeth” starring David Tennant and Cush Jumbo.
And very good it was too. An imaginatively staged, stripped back production relying on the skill of the actors to bring the characters to life. It actually reminded me of when I saw it in 1976 whilst studying it for my English O Level. That was at Theatr Clwyd and they only had a single large rock as scenery. The scene with the porter (the “comedy” moment in Macbeth) was very well done, as the actor stepped out of character and broke the “fourth wall” to engage with the audience before seamlessly returning to the Shakespearean dialogue. A production well worth seeing, if you get the chance - I finally understood what the play is all about nearly 50 years after passing my O Level!
