Jane Austen
A wet, windy day.
I have spent the afternoon sorting out a cupboard, and have another four large bags full of “ stuff” for the charity shop. It took me a lot longer than I was expecting, it’s further slow progress.
I had a look at the nearby bookcase, some of the books will be going to the charity shop too. However, although lots of books have gone in that direction over the years, I am beginning to think I may actually need more book space.
I have let a lot of fiction go over years, generally keeping books I’ve recently read and books I have yet to read. This year is the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth, which is getting its fair share of recognition. I think these three books are J’s. I’ve read Pride and Prejudice, but not Persuasion or Emma. I ought to give them a go, I am enjoying “Miss Austen” on Sunday night TV, based on Gill Hornby’s book - an imagining of why Jane’s sister Cassandra destroyed many of her letters. It’s very well made.
