Boat Building Competition
Still another sea day (the last in a string of three). This afternoon, a boat building competition was judged by the pool -- lots of fun, and the entrants were very creative with their vessels! They had to come up with the necessary components by scavenging suitably seaworthy materials around the ship.
The boats were judged on several categories -- best looking, floatability, speed of crossing from one side of the pool to the other, and cargo capacity (judged by how many cans of soda and/or beer could be added to the hull and still be able to float). There were seven entrants, and the winner was La Dolce Vita (the boat on the far left of my photo.)
Everyone did an amazing job, and I think a good time was had by all -- contestants and audience alike!
Earlier in the day, we did another S.A.L.T. cooking class, this time focusing on Mauritian dishes. We made a delicious Fish Samosa (NOT using yesterday's poor kissed fish!), which was described as "Golden and crispy, Mauritian Fish Samosas are filled with a flavourful mix of spiced fish and Creole influences. These irresistible parcels are a street food favourite, perfect as a snack or starter." These Samosas were served with a tasty Coriander Chutney -- "Bright, zesty, and brimming with tropical freshness, coriander chutney is a versatile condiment that captures the vibrant essence of island cuisine. Made with fragrant coriander leaves and green chillies, this chutney balances tanginess, spice, and herbal notes in every bite." For dessert we made Coconut and Cardamom Rice Pudding with Vanilla Syrup -- "Creamy coconut milk, fragrant cardamom, and silky vanilla syrup transform humble rice into a luxurious dessert. This comforting Mauritian classic reflects the island's rich blend of flavours and is the perfect ending to any tropical feast."
Sadly, I forgot to bring my camera to class, but another participant kindly shared the group photo that was taken of all we chefs. (See extra!)
