While on my runs

Fallen from a Rimu tree

Pleasant walk along the Lower Pipeline. I was back to the local streets before I got any photos. The extra is of a small grey bird which darted out of one tree into another, and challenged my ability to get a sharp photo of a small bird in amongst dry frtn fronds, and many leaves and branches. Fo a time I thought that I'd managed a photo of the Grey Warbler. Looking at the Colour Guide to Bird Identification, there are more aspects that suggest a female (or a juvenile male) house sparrow.

Wandering around in the backyard as I 'warmed down' after the walk, I saw a nest on the ground close to the trunk of a Rimu. There were no eggs, and no eggshell or other evidence to suggest that chicks had been in the nest when it fell.
