Morecambe Bay

We took a short drive to Silverdale for a circuit along the coast and around to Arnside Knott, then a precipitous descent (sorry, E) to Arnside Tower before returning via Middlebarrow Wood. It was another cold, flat white kind of day but pleasant enough for walking. Late afternoon, I managed to find the energy for another 5 miles up and down the promenade, and at a decent pace considering the recent mileage

I saw the news about the dramatic sinkhole at Godstone in Surrey, very surprised that there was no mention of the mines. While at university I spent a possibly unhealthy number of hours exploring the extensive system of tunnels around there. I found it rather addictive, this notion of wandering about under people's houses, or so I liked to think we were. I remember once emerging with a group of us from a gap between some advertising hoardings next to a bus stop. The people waiting got quite a surprise, all of with our mining lamps! I've not thought about that in a long while. Have they been completely forgotten? Have a look here.
